I was very sad to hear that Jane Russell passed away this Monday at her home in Santa Maria, California of a respiratory-related illness.

She was a darling of the Golden Age of Cinema, and an original pin-up having entertained troops. She seemed sassy but smart (meaning she never had scandalous details of her personal life in the press, unlike her contemporaries), and was an advocate for foreign adoption, she adopted several children and, in 1955, founded the World Adoption International Fund.
My favorite performance of her’s was alongside Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. What a fantastic movie.
