Wednesday's Wonder Woman - Barbra Streisand

Wednesday's Wonder Woman Barbara Streisand

You must listen to the song below whilst reading the post. Heaven to the ears and such a romantic song.

There is something about it that is so womanly.

I’m such a huge Barbra Streisand fan, the woman can do no wrong.  She has such a fanstastic singing voice, the type you don’t hear much of these days. You know what I mean, one that requires no synthesizing, no trickery, just a pure sweet voice that speaks to you.  None of that highly over-engineered cr*p.

Such a fanstatic actress too. My favorite movies of hers are Yentl, Funny Girl, The Mirror Has Two Faces and of course, The Way We Were……  :sigh:  Robert Redford….. :sigh:

My favorite Barbra memory.

Whilst I was at college studying Performing Arts, we had to have our singing voices and individual performance skills critiqued by our tutor so we could know what to work on. One by one my co-students walked into the stage hall and sang/and or danced/performed at the tutor (and the rest of the class).  Most sang a Britney Spears song, or a show tune.  Ack, the amount of times I heard the songbook from “Chicago” get murdered that day.

Cue my turn. I walk on stage, nervous but excited (singing was what got me my place on the course)

I burst in to this…

I loved every minute of singing that song on stage, but errrrr, my tutor and peers looked at me blankly.

Confused, I asked if it was rubbish.  The other kids had our classmates tapping their feet and singing along.  Then my tutor asked, “Where is that song from?  Never heard it before”.

“Its Barbra Streisand”, I said.  No reaction. “You know, Barbra Strei……..” Still no reaction…

Blushing, I got off the stage and sat back in my seat.

Tutor pulls me aside later.  “That was great; but I haven’t heard of the song or the singer before”.

No one KNEW the original songstress, let alone the song! WHAT!??

I made myself seem a bit of an oddball to my new college friends that day for liking ‘old fashioned music’, but I got the best reviews and the leading role in our next production – so thanks Barbra for your song.

Barbra, I think you are beautiful – even the movie stars of today want to be you!

I even read once that you told a reporter that it was advised by a mentor in the industry that you get a nose job because it was too big. You flatly refused, saying it might affect your singing voice. So glad you didn’t, and I think you are beautiful as you are and so self depreciating it is refreshing.

I defy you to say that you don’t love her music and movies!

Start collecting and saving pretty glass jam jars with metal lids. You can re-use them at Christmas to house homemade spice-rub gifts. Just add pretty ribbons and labels to decorate.
